Friedemann Matzeit studied jazz saxophone in Berlin and film composition in Potsdam-Babelsberg. His versatile career as a saxophonist has led him to perform in Mexico, South Korea, and numerous European countries, collaborating with artists like Hasan Yükselir and participating in many CD releases. Since 2007, Matzeit has also been the musical director and arranger for the renowned Danish singer Gitte Haenning.

Matzeit has made a significant impact in the film world, composing and producing the scores for the German feature film „Sonja“ and the Chinese blockbusters „Dream Team,“ „Fall of Ming,“ and „Charlie and Dodomo.“ His music has also enriched numerous television documentaries, including „Terra X“ for ZDF and „The Winter Flame“ for the Chinese Olympic Committee.

As an arranger, Matzeit has worked with high-profile ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin, the Babelsberg Film Orchestra, and the Palast Berlin Orchestra. He has also lent his talents to artists like Paul van Dyk and the Dresden Kreuzchor. Together with his brother Hagen Matzeit, he continues to compose and produce pop songs as well as music for theater and television. Matzeit’s impressive portfolio and international experience make him a standout figure in the music scene, consistently captivating audiences with his broad artistic spectrum.

 

Hagen Matzeit, a dynamic and versatile artist, studied voice in Berlin with Bernd Riedel and took directing courses with luminaries such as Ruth Berghaus, Peter Konwitschny, and Harry Kupfer. In 1999, he received a scholarship from the Richard Wagner Association and the Komische Oper Berlin, where he has regularly appeared as a guest, currently starring in the successful musical production „Chicago.“

His repertoire is as diverse as it is impressive, including roles such as Hans Scholl in „Die Weiße Rose,“ the title role in „Jakob Lenz,“ Madjnun in Samir Odeh-Tamimi’s „Leila and Madjnun,“ Aymar in Oscar Bianchi’s opera „Thanks to My Eyes,“ the title role in Miroslav Srnka’s „Jakub Flügelbunt,“ and the Herald in Aribert Reimann’s „Medea.“ Matzeit has also excelled in leading roles in operatic works by Georg Friedrich Handel, C.H. Graun, and N. Porpora, performing at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music, the Komische Oper Berlin, the Dortmund Opera, and the Halle Opera.

Matzeit’s exceptional talent has been showcased on some of the world’s most prestigious stages. He has performed at the National Theatre Mannheim, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Theater an der Wien, Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, Opéra National de Paris, Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, and Den Norske Opera in Oslo. He has also been invited to major festivals such as the Bregenz Festival, Ruhrtriennale, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Holland Festival in Amsterdam, Arts Music Bruxelles, and the Melbourne Australian International Festival. He made his debut at the Bavarian State Opera with the role of Axel Freund in „Bluthaus.“ Another notable success came in the 2023/24 season at the Cologne Opera with his interpretation and performance of Orpheus in the world premiere of the opera „Ines.“ Together with his brother Friedemann Matzeit, he also composes and produces pop songs as well as music for theater and television.
