Dervish of Anatolia (TUR)

Blending the ancient melodies of Anatolia with Western instruments, Dervish of Anatolia invites its audience on a journey both spiritual and geographical. Through ethno-ambient foundations and a masterful fusion of jazz and folk traditions, the ensemble brings a contemporary voice to Anatolia’s timeless musical heritage.

THE STORY OF THE ENSEMBLE
The group was born from a creative dialogue between Elif Mine Çökdü (Elfie)—one of the rare artists who sings while playing the double bass—and Hasan Yükselir, the founder of the Meinwelt Musik Festival. Yükselir’s suggestion to reinterpret Anatolian melodies with Western instrumentation sparked Elfie’s vision.
She soon invited trumpet player and arranger Tevfik Kulak to join the project. Kulak embraced the vision from the beginning and crafted the first arrangement of “Uzun İnce Bir Yoldayım,” shaping the group’s distinctive sound. The ensemble was later joined by jazz pianist Devrim Yeşilpınar and percussionist Akgün Çavuş, forming a complete four-piece structure.
