
[en] Hasan Yükselir is a singer, composer, as well as the founder and artistic director of the International MainWeltmusik Festival in Offenbach am Main. Based in Germany and Türkiye, the artist uniquely combines classical music, jazz, and Anatolian folk music, creating a distinctive musical language between tradition and modernity.
With his classically trained voice and profound musical expressiveness, he interprets Anatolian folk songs in new musical forms, building impressive bridges between European and Anatolian sound worlds. His concerts are characterized by emotional depth, musical sensitivity, and cultural openness.
Hasan Yükselir studied music at Gazi University in Ankara and later completed a Master’s degree in Theatre Studies at Ankara University. Throughout his artistic career, he has participated in theatre productions, musicals, and international concert projects, released several albums, and composed music for stage, film, and television.
Among his significant works are the chamber opera “Sah Hände, die Rosen banden in dunkler Erde”, the song cycle “Love is a Shirt of Fire” based on poems by Nâzım Hikmet, the cantata “From Yunus to Nazım Hikmet”, as well as the Concertino for Three Bağlamas and Orchestra.
His musical projects have taken him to renowned concert halls and cultural institutions including the Cologne Philharmonie (WDR), Alte Oper Frankfurt, Hamburg Musikhalle, Stuttgart Liederhalle, Gasteig Munich, and the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin.
As the founder and artistic director of the MainWeltmusik Festival, Hasan Yükselir has pursued for many years the vision of bringing together people from different cultures and musical traditions through the unifying power of music. Under his direction, the festival has developed into an important platform for cultural dialogue, musical diversity, and international artistic exchange.
